Often called a Glass Snake it is actually a Glass Lizard, both are reptiles. Like all East coast lizards, it is completely non venomous and harmless. This is the eastern glass lizard is one of three glass lizards that live near by. We visit some Edisto Island wildlife in South Carolina and find this cool glass lizard that looks like snake.

Have YOU seen a Glass Lizard? Tell me below in the comments.

Glass lizards eat worms, insects, perhaps small frogs because they are opportunistic feeders.
They are called glass lizards because the tail will break when grabbed by a predator.
They are called glass snakes because most people are not familiar with the several legless lizards species that live in the United States until the tail breaks and wiggles and distracts the predator...the glass lizard body quietly wiggles away!

Girdling ...removing a strip of bark around the trunk is great method to remove a tree that cannot be easily cut down. Here is why we did it.

A large tree in the rain forest with a crack in it is dangerous. Near two trail that are used very often by peole, we made the hard decision to kill it with a slow method. The chainsaw was an option, but that process would be dangerous as well. We decided to girdle or ring-bark the tree to have slow more natural death. Insects and other animals may have the chance to use the tree in a more natural process. There tree was also close to electrical lines, which were in jeopardy if the trees was cut. The other consideration that we had was the number of juvenile trees that would be killed or hurt in the collateral damage.

It was a difficult decision for sure, but one that we believe is the correct one as well.

We will try to keep you updated in the process.

You may think it is a funny iguana, but not exactly. On an extreme night walk, I run into an iguana type lizard, known as the Helmeted Basilisk. While not a pet lizard ...it seemed quite tame. Related to iguanas, Helmeted Basilisks are quite different.

They are related to the Brown and Green Basilisk lizards or Jesus Christ lizards and will run on their two back feet, but never over the water.

This particular individual opened its mouth when I repeatedly stroked his spines. This was the first time that one had a different response.

Snake Field Hook and how to travel on an airplane with it. Not having a me field hook in the jungle meant that I had to use a machete. Machete are not good for moving a stubborn Terceopelo or Fer-de-Lance out of they way. Machetes are too short. You can easily fall on your machete and get hurt. You cannot flip a log or a rock very easily with a machete. Forget about peeling bark.

Yes--it costs more, but I think you will have peace of mind if you just make a tube and check it.

This field hook is from Midwest Tongs. You can one from them or Amazon.com
